Syafiqah Nawawi's story
AIA Consultant
"Take care of your body, be it nutrition, adequate rest or cultivating an active lifestyle, because if you don't, who else would?"
For more than a hundred years, AIA has made significant effort in positively impacting the lives of customers and communities across Asia. To continue the strive for healthier, longer, better lives AIA is starting a movement that reinforces our Purpose, with the AIA One Billion initiative.
Reinstating our Brand Purpose to helping people lead healthier lives, our ambition is to engage and influence a billion people by 2030. Our mission is to bring our Purpose to life by translating it into reality, working together to create a more sustainable future for everyone. We are excited to make progress towards a greener and healthier future. We want to invite you to join us in this journey towards Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.
In recent years, while populations in Asia have grown in wealth and affluence, lifestyle-related diseases have also increased, accounting for more than 70 per cent of all deaths1. Modifiable factors such as physical inactivity, poor nutrition, smoking and excess alcohol consumption have fuelled the rise of non-communicable diseases2 (NCD), such as cancer, diabetes, respiratory and heart disease, as well as mental conditions and disorders.
At the same time, the environment is increasingly identified as a significant cause of disease with research linking NCDs with environmental factors. We also know that Asia is particularly affected by climate change. The World Health Organization and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have warned that climate change will increase morbidity and mortality in this region3.
Altogether this is a critical situation that threatens to cripple public healthcare with rising rates of morbidity and mortality and represents a humanitarian crisis for the entire life insurance industry, for society, and for all people living in the communities in which AIA operates across Asia.
By taking action today to actively engage people to embrace healthier lifestyles and secure a healthier planet, the AIA One Billion initiative further delivers on our commitment to create a more sustainable future for everyone in society.
Through partnerships, events, community programmes and campaigns, we will educate, inspire and support our communities to improve people's physical, mental and environmental wellness while championing financial inclusion.
